Helix Charter School

Welcome Back!

It was great to see our students today back in the building! This year is the first year for the Helix Charter School! We just wrapped up our Centennial Celebration, and now we are excited for the next 100 years! We have over 35 new students and over 26 new families that are now part of the Helix School Community. For our returning students and for many of our new students, today is the day to reconnect with friends and the Helix staff. I am pleased to announce we have two new teachers at Helix:  Addie Corey in Kindergarten and Cassie Castle in Agriculture Science! We also have two new part-time custodians helping us daily:  Josh Owens and Hayley Buckley! Please help us welcome our new staff!

Breakfast takes place in the multipurpose room at 8:00 a.m.  Almost all classes start at 8:30. The exception is the middle school and high school students taking a “0” period class, should arrive by 7:00 a.m.  An 8:27 a.m. bell rings to remind students to head to class. If your student is running late and coming in the door after 8:30, please have them stop by the office to check-in before heading to class.

Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout most of the school year.  If you come by the office and no one is there, my apologies. Please wait and Cindy or I will be right back.

Additional security will be added to exterior doors:

The Helix Charter School is in the process of completing our door security project which was delayed last year due to the microchip shortage. This project will add an additional layer of security for our students and staff during the school day. Once the installation is complete, visitors will only have access into the school through the front doors of the high school. More information will be coming once the system is in place later this fall.

Cell phones and personal electronic devices:

Please encourage your student to leave their cell phone(s) and personal electronic devices in their locker or backpack during the school day. If a teacher is okay with students using their personal electronics in class, the teacher will clearly communicate with students that it’s okay for them to use their phones, smart watches, or personal tablets to support the learning activity in the classroom.

The Helix School-Level Communicable Disease Management Plan can be found at https://5il.co/22uln. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

We are looking forward to a safe and productive 2023-2024 school year! I hope to see all of you at our Community Feed & Open House on Thursday, Oct. 12th, at 5 p.m. to help us celebrate our 1st year as the Helix Charter School!

Sincerely,

Brad Bixler
